Spousal Sponsorship
One thing that immigrants from around the world find the most appealing about Canada is its flexible immigration policies to keep the families together and enabling them to reunite and live a comfortable life in Canada together.
Owing the commitment of the Canadian government to prioritize family reunification, various sponsorship programs are in existence making it possible for your spouse/ common law partner to achieve a permanent residency status in Canada, that too within a 12 month processing period.
Furthermore, the process of sponsoring you spouse basically begins with the sponsor, and in order to be eligible to be sponsor one must:-
- At least be 18 years old
- Be a Canadian citizen, a person registered in Canada as an indian under the Canadian indian act or a permanent resident living in Canada
- If you are a Canadian citizen living outside of Canada, you must show that you plan to live in Canada when your sponsored relative(s) become(s) a permanent resident
- You cant sponsor someone if you are a permanent resident living outside Canada
- Be able to prove that you are not receiving social assistance for reasons other than disability, and;
- Can provide for the basic needs for the person you are sponsoring ( in certain limited situations, that you meet the low income cut-off )
Inland Spousal Sponsorship
In case you and you are both living in Canada, and you respective partner is on a valid visitor, work or study permit, in such a case you may apply for Inland Spousal Sponsorship from within Canada itself. And the cherry on the cake is that, the sponsored individual could also be eligible to apply for a spousal open work permit simultaneously which will qualify them to work and earn money while living in Canada while their application is being processed, eventually easing the financial burden.
Outland Spousal Sponsorship
Well as good as it sounds to have your spouse living the same country; it is not the reality of most of the partners applying for the spousal sponsorship programs. Sadly, most of the couples live in separate countries while filing for spousal sponsoring, in such cases the Outland Sponsorship comes to rescue and enable your spouse or common law partner to apply for sponsorship while living outside Canada. Also, the sponsored person may be granted a temporary visa to visit Canada while their application is under process.
